Your GEO-CAM 4G camera purchase includes a mounting strap and a pre-activated SIM card for cellular connectivity. Solar panels can be purchased for an additional cost, and can be found in our shop catalog at https://shop.geo-pak.com/collections/all
Once set up is completed, your camera will use the SIM card to connect your camera to your settings, and send photos to the GEO-PAK Hunt app on your phone, using your cellular network. The camera can be configured to take photos or videos based on a schedule (i.e. every 30 minutes, once every 2 hours, etc.), or based upon motion detection. These settings also offer an option to have a time delay between each triggered motion. You can also take a photo or video at any time by clicking on the "command image" button in your GEO-PAK app. You can update, change, or check your settings at any time using the app, or manually directly on the camera. Each photo and video will show up in your GEO-PAK Hunt app, under the "Camera" feature, with a timestamp and camera name at the bottom.
We recommend purchasing a solar panel from our shop, or using an external power source, but if you choose to use batteries, the camera takes AA batteries. Lithium batteries will work better than Alkaline batteries because the camera stops transmitting photos at 8.6V, and Alkaline batteries will fall below 8.6V much faster than Lithium.
The life of the batteries inside the camera will vary based on day vs. night photos, signal strength, temperature, etc. A general guide of battery life is as follows:
We offer a solar panel to work with the camera, which we recommend as the power source. Assuming the panel gets at least 3-4 hours of direct sunlight per day, it will power the camera indefinitely. However, if the solar panel does not get the direct sunlight necessary, the power will drain over time, and will do so even quicker in cold weather.
If you would prefer a different external power source, you can use 120V wall outlet converters or battery terminal connectors. Our partners at Barn Owl offer both of these options in their shop at BarnOwl - Accessories.
Our current featured camera, the GEO-CAM 4G Trail cam, is a trail camera with 100 degree field of view, capabilities for night photos, videos, and motion-activation. Functioning off of 6 or 12AA batteries, the 2" LCD screen within the camera will store up to 32GB on the SD card. Detailed specifications can be found under the product page, found here: https://shop.geo-pak.com/products/geo-cam-4g-trail-camera
When you receive your camera and initiate the set up in your GEO-PAK Hunt app, you will be provided with a username and password to enter into the camera for cellular connectivity. The default setting is for motion-activated photos with no delay between motion trigger. However, you can personalize these settings and set up your notification preferences in the GEO-PAK app after your camera has been activated.
When you configure your camera and set up your device in the GEO-PAK app, you will select how you would like to receive your photos and videos from the camera. You can be alerted via email or text, but you can also find your images at any time in the GEO-PAK Hunt app, under the "Camera" feature.
The 4G camera can transmit both photos and videos, and have them sent directly to your GEO-PAK Hunt app. Video can be transmitted in 5-10 second clips, and can be taken on demand, at scheduled times, or triggered by motion. If used in "burst mode", 2-5 images will be transmitted from each burst.
After a photo or video is taken with the camera, it usually takes about 30 seconds (or less) to receive the image via app, email, or text. If you have poor cellular strength (2 bars of less), it may be slightly delayed.
The photos and videos taken by the camera will transmit to your app once you have set up the camera in your GEO-PAK Hunt app. However, at setup, you also have the option to send the images through email or text. The message will contain the image, the camera ID, and the camera's location.
The networks that are compatible with the camera in the United States include AT&T and T-Mobile. In addition, you can use other regional 4G/LTE networks, such as Viaero. All cameras are shipped with a SIM card for either AT&T or T-Mobile, based on the towers in your area. The cameras do not connect to Verizon towers, but will only pose a problem to those users that are located where Verizon is the ONLY signal in the area.
All cellular use and connectivity is handled separately from your cellular phone bill, so your cell phone carrier has no correlation to this service.
The camera needs to have two bars of cellular service in order to consistently transmit photos and videos. Any service less than that may result in inconsistent and unreliable sending of photos and videos. In our experience, the larger antenna of the camera allows for often better reception than our cell phones in the same area.
You pay at the end of each month based on camera usage. You're charged $5 for each camera that transmits any data during your billing cycle. In addition to the $5 per camera, you're charged one data fee for the total amount of data used across all of your cameras.
Again, your data is combined across all cameras on your account, and is a single charge separate from the $5 per camera. The data pricing breakdown can be seen in detail at the bottom of our home page at shop.geo-pak.com.
